Hunt Couplings
Hunt Couplings are new development using Rare-Earth Magnets. Neodymium magnets have been around since the 1980s and can be found in many everyday applications, such as; electric motors in cordless power tools, hard disk drives (HDD) in computers and small clasps. They also have their uses in the model railway field, they can be placed in the track to operate various types of couplings, for example, Kadee couplers. Hunt Couplings from West Hill Wagon Works have now deloped a means of using the magnets on the trains themselves.
On this page Ted Schofield demonstrates their use on his Bachmann Mk1 coaches for use on Kingsway and Birch Hill. There are various packs available from the West Hill Wagon Works website. Currently they are available for N gauge and OO gauge, but O gauge is on the way.
