Those of us of a certain age, will remenber the fleet of Western Region diesel hydraulic locomotives, built in the 1950s/1960s. The last of the classes, the 52s or Westerns were finally withdrawn in February 1977. Over the years we have been treated to various models of the classes from the likes of Trix, Lima, Triang/Hornby, Mainline, Bachmann, EFE, Heljan & Dapol. Kernow Model Railway Centre even produced sn exclusive model the original D6xx Warships and covered all five locomotives in a variety of liveries. Standards have obviously improved over the decades and todays models quite exquisite. However, there is room to improve the look of the locos by adding the buffer beam detail and some weathering. The Westerns and D8xx Warships benefit by the addition of the front valance below the buffer beam, which completes the face of the loco. Below are a selction of models which have so treated.
