London, Tilbury & Southend Railway 0-6-2 Tank Engine Text & Photos by Ivan Davison
Here we have a London, Tilbury & Southend Railway 0-6-2T, one of a class of 14 locos built between 1903 and 1912 to a design of the railway's CME Mr. Whitelegg. A freight loco for a railway with a mostly passenger trade, these were used on much of the small LTSR network, hauling material to and from the many docksides along the north bank of the Thames. They lasted well, the last being withdrawn as late as 1962! The model is a 3D printed body on a Hornby SR Class 700 chassis. Detailing is achieved with a pack of white metal castings that come with the kit. I got the body as a pre-marketing prototype from the manufacturer (Golden Arrow) and had to wait for the castings to come as a complementary afterthought. The whole kit is now available from Golden Arrow. It needs some paring away of "flash" but was generally easy to assemble and fitted the chassis like a glove.
